The Black Orchid

This documentary tells a story about stringband from West Papua called Black Orchid Stringband who launched their first album on August 2017. The band which some of the members were boat people to seek asylum in Australia continues the legacy of Arnold Ap, a West Papuan activist, anthropologist and musician. The Black Orchid Stringband includes traditional music equipment representative of their struggle for freedom and cultural identity of their Papuan-ness. The songs, have deep meaning of their imagery of their culture and memory about their homeland. We want to capture those things through the work of these talented artists through the songs.
