Ashes In The Cloud

Bandung, March 2020, Indonesia experienced the corona virus pandemic that affected all communities regardless of wealth and age. One morning in the middle of the quarantine, Popoh Tjhie Kiat Sung is busy preparing a special Batam Fried Rice breakfast for Kungkung Thai Phen Tjong who has just moved from the bed. While Kungkung enjoys his breakfast, Popoh spend the day sunbathing and also chatting with her neighbor, talking about kitchen spices. Popoh shares her worries about the virus outbreak she and Kungkung are currently facing. She talks about how strange life was in quarantine, as she remembered isolating herself from the riots of '98. Not entirely sad, Popoh is also grateful because for the past few weeks, her three daughters have always visiting her at home, bringing various foods from the market. When everyone left both of them, the house feels so quiet. Kungkung and Popoh don’t often talk to each other, and sometimes have fight. However, day by day, Popoh realized that in the end, they only have each other.
