AH PEK

“Ah Pek” is a popular local term of address for an elderly Chinese gentleman above his 50s. Literally translated as “Uncle” in Hokkien. This term has taken on a whole new meaning for young Singaporeans. It is filled with negative connotations and stereotypical expectations of a certain mindset and lifestyle associated with the elderly Chinese males who once built the nation with their blood, sweat and tears. Ah Pek is an observational documentary that takes a deeper look into this mythical generation and their perceived mindset and lifestyle.
