Voices: Memories On A Plate
Beyond subsistence, food serves as medium to understand our world. Through examining personal histories, Director Ng Yiqin celebrates how food brings people together as she uncovers the subtler significances that make every bite even heartier.
In the first season of this series, we have a 91 year-old Hokkien grandfather, migrant workers from South India, a Malay grandmother and her grandson, a chef with a hawker background and a newly-wedded couple.
In the second season of Memories On A Plate, Yiqin delves deeper to explore the personal and collective food biographies of Singapore. More than just plating a dish, the series is about the people, relationships and memories that we associate food with. This season uncovers the personal stories behind Nasi Lemak and Sambal Tumis Udang, Nasi Tumpeng, Bak Kut Teh, Hyderabad Biryani, and Taiwanese Beef Noodles.
