The Ra(men): The Mission

Musicians/restauranteurs Jack and Rai are in discussion about doing something special for the year 2021. Toying with several ideas, they decide that whatever they do, it must be uniquely Singaporean and represent the Singaporean spirit. Eavesdropping into their conversation, The Flying Squirrel regular Kohji-san plants the idea of a ramen dish in their heads. Agreeing with his suggestion, they run through aspects that define the Singaporean identity. Meanwhile, the crashing of pots and pans is heard from the kitchen. It dawns upon the Duo that they do not know the first thing about cooking, with their only salvation being The Flying Squirrel Head Chef, Juliette, who is not too pleased with their plans.

Director Statement: Ramen is more than a story about the ever-popular noodle originating from Japan. It is a story about the Singapore people, a celebration of Singaporean culture, heritage and the many individuals who embody the Singaporean spirit through their willingness to adapt and develop a uniquely Singaporean creation. Whether it is food or life, the protagonists and like many other Singaporeans alike, find a way.
