The Invisible Migrant

Every year, more than 200,000 migrant workers make a four-hour flight to Singapore to take up lowly paid jobs shunned by locals. They leave their families behind with the promise of a better life, hoping to bank them out of poverty. Their parents, wives and young children await with a heavy heart, harping on a renewed hope beyond their absence. Some return to eventually live an economic fairytale, but others continue to struggle.

"The Invisible Migrant" chronicles the life of Belayet Abdul, a 25-year-old construction worker who has been out of work for more than a month. He left his hometown in Dhaka, Bangladesh four years ago to build a brighter future for his family but today stands a broken man, still unable to live up to his promise.

This is his story.
