The Digital Divide Ep 4: An Inclusive Society

Siew Ling is a member of the differently abled community who relies on assistive technology to interact with others and pursue a career at SG Enable. Thanks to her live braille display, she is also able to enjoy hobbies such as blogging and jogging. As this episode takes us through various aspects of Siew Ling’s life, we see how technology plays an integral role in leveling the playing field for people from disadvantaged communities.

Director Statement:
As a child, an example of advanced technology was using a floppy disk the size of my palm to store digital information up to a few megabytes. Today, I find myself ordering a cup of coffee by scanning a QR code on my phone - a device that connects me to the world and can answer any question in a few microseconds.

Yet research suggests that at least one in 10 households in Singapore is not plugged into the digital world. Hearing this, I was interested in finding out how the rapid digitalisation of our society has affected different demographics.

Embarking on this series allowed me to learn how integral technology is in our lives. From making purchases to expressing ourselves, and connecting with others. Technology is now indispensable to us and thus it is critical to make sure no one is left behind in this digital age.
