A family with two young girls decides to leave Afghanistan because of the deteriorating security situation. The father sells the eldest girl as a bride to an old man, Gholam, in order to afford the remaining family's escape from the country. The eldest daughter is beaten each night when her husband returns home. She runs away with a young man to escape her marriage. Gholam demands that the dowry be returned to him. The father decides to give his youngest daughter to Gholam instead.
