Shopee Diaries: A Father's Advice

Yana Azmi Tan was a lab technologist from Malaysia who made Kimchi as a hobby and eventually turned it into an online business. Her father was the one who encouraged her to do what she loved and focus on her Kimchi business idea.

Yana wasn’t sure if she had the selling skills and if it was sustainable, but her willingness to try and that she saw a demand for Halal Korean food in her country. Starting with RM 200 business capital, she embarked on this endeavour full of hope and heart, and in the earlier years, she was selling Kimchi mostly through social media platforms and word of mouth. But as the demand grew, she decided to look for an alternative platform with e-commerce in mind. This was the beginning of Yana’s journey with Shopee.
