Syakir was a sea-faring cadet before switching to a shore-based role with MPA. His current work in hydrography survey is a critical link in nautical charting for the safety of maritime navigation in Singapore waters. Together with his team, he operates and maintains hydrographic equipment such as multibeam sonar survey systems, side scan sonars, laser coast-lining systems and more.
