Written by Singaporean writer Regina Toon, Heart Shape 莲蓉包 is a short film about the possibilities of new beginnings at every ending, and how love flows even in the quietest solitude.

It appears to be following a very ordinary day in the life of Yong, an 80-year-old Hakka Chinese man. Yong makes longevity buns for a living, and today, like any other day, he prepares the buns in the early morning. He then brings them to the temple that he frequents to share them with the God of Heaven (Tian Gong), his “boss”. On the bus there, he encounters a young boy who unwittingly causes him to look back on his life with bittersweet nostalgia. Fluctuating between memories of love and loss, Yong finally gathers a sense of acceptance for his life and impending death. And in that acceptance, blossoms a new beginning.
