Chacal Word Film

Chacal is a character from the 70’s cultural life of Rio de Janeiro, with long-lived projects that represent the libertarian spirit of the city. He is not only a recognized poet-performer, but was also one of the responsible for the first events of spoken poetry in Brazil, mixing it with other performing arts. He spent his whole life opening spaces for poets like himself to speak up.

Chacal’s poetry was always profane, bastard, rock and roll like. His autobiography “Chacal, An Underground Story", later adapted into a play, were the starting point of the film. Chacal 's life and his poems were told/ interpreted in studio, interacting with day to day scenes of his life and events: the poet in full revelry, as an MC of a pre-carnival Ball, performing at CEP 20,000 with other poets, parading on the carnival block he founded, performing on the streets. As his biography does, film makes clear the artist’s objective to constantly mix life and poetry.
