M-C-M': Utopia Milik Siapa?

In an interview with TimeOut KL, the director, Boon Kia Meng explained the background of why the film was made: "It was inspired by what I saw in 2011, from the Arab Spring to the Occupy Wall Street movement in the United States. I saw that most of these uprisings stemmed from economic issues and the crisis that capitalism is facing in the West.

I began to ask the question, "Why are we (Malaysians) not outraged, given that we practice the same capitalistic system here? Some quarters are warning that if we're not careful, Malaysia could be a prime target for a perfect economic storm in 2013. That's according to NYU economics professor, Nouriel Roubini, in a recent report."

The filmmaker takes us on a journey to discover how the present situation of escalating house prices came about, what kind of forces are at work, interviewing the key players in the system, such as developers, the banks, the state and young house buyers, which some concerned parties have called the Malaysian Homeless Generation. An award-winning film on affordable housing, rising debt, and why democracy matters to the economic well-being of all Malaysians.
